Let's Get A
Fresh Start
10 Steps For A Pond Clean Out
- Shut off pumps and turn on pond lighting if you have any.
- Set up our large clean out tanks and drain the pond.
- Safely net out any koi or other fish once the pond is mostly drained and move them to tank with their own pond water to stay during the duration of the clean out.
- Pressure wash the rocks and gravel starting from the stream or waterfall and work your way down.
- Remove, inspect, and clean filters in skimmer and biofalls. If any filters need to be replaced we will have them on the trucks.
- Inspect the pond while it is empty for any problems, check the lighting as well. If any lights are under warranty with us we will replace them at this point.
- Once we are done pressure washing, we will then start to rinse starting from the top of the stream or waterfall with clean water coming from one of our clean out tanks we have started filling at the beginning of the clean out. The sludge and debris that was loosened up by the pressure washer will work its way down to the bottom of the pond where it will then be pumped out.
- We will then start filling back up the pond using roughly 50% of the original pond water and 50% new fresh water.
- After we have detoxified the water to remove any chemicals, we will safely return the fish to their homes
- We clean up, fill out our clean out check list and leave a bottle of beneficial bacteria with you. If you have any questions we are here to answer them for you. Now it is time to enjoy your clean pond!

Our backyard koi pond was in a sorry shape. It had been a couple years since we had drained and cleaned it, plants overgrown, underwater lights not functioning, etc. I’ve seen the Pondscapes trucks around town for years and had been flirting with call them. I am so glad I did - they came out within 1.5 weeks, it took 3 men over 3 hours to get it clean. It looks amazing. They also replaced my lights, took great care of the fish and cleaned up so nicely before they left. I am so impressed that I just signed up for their monthly maintenance/care plan. Highly recommend.

After using two other companies unsuccessfully, I finally found Pondscapes and never looked back! They have done several cleanings and maintenance and recently a major rebuild. Were very easy to communicate with and always here when they said they would be.
