The Vision
This South Park homeowner’s koi outgrew their pond. They wanted more space for the fish and an interactive area where their grandkids could enjoy and learn about them. The existing pond had an intake bay they wanted to preserve, but floating food cluttered the water and the system didn’t give the koi enough room to thrive. After collaborating with the customer, we had a plan.
The Transformation
We rebuilt the pond with a 5 foot expansion and integrated the original intake bay into the new design. We installed an underwater tunnel beneath a stepping stone walkway that connects the main pond to a separate 1.5 foot deep feeding basin where the koi swim through to eat in a contained area, keeping uneaten food from drifting throughout the pond. We integrated multiple jets to circulate water into the feeding zone and create a stronger current to the intake bay so it better collects debris. Without the jets, the expansion would have created current dead zones that make clean outs harder. We placed stones around all sections to create a unified natural look. More space, cleaner water, smarter design.
